Funk It Up

A Jamaican swizzle that's far from traditional, combining Appleton's Rum, Orange, Strawberry and Ginger!

Ingredients

  • 1 Strawberry Stem removed and halved
  • 2 Orange Peels
  • 1.5 oz Appleton's 8 yr Rum
  • 3/4 oz Demerara Ginger Syrup *
  • 1/2 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Instructions

  1. In a Double Rocks Glass or small hurricane glass, muddle strawberry and orange peel.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients.

  3. Fill your glass 2/3 of the way with crushed ice and Swizzle/churn (stir) until combined.

  4. Top up with more crushed ice. Garnish with extra strawberry slice.

Recipe Notes

*For the Demerara Syrup, combine 1 cup demerara sugar with 1 cup water into a small saucer and let it come to a boil. Add a 1 inch piece of Jamaican Ginger (if you're using ginger coming from China use 2 inches) GRATED. Reduce the temperature to a simmer for 5 minutes. Once that's done, strain through. Can last up to 2 weeks.
