Canadian Cocktail – The Green Current with Sheringham Gin

I have to admit, this Gin Beer Cocktail surprised me in so many ways. The Wheat Ale from Unibroue accentuated everything that represents Sheringham Gin, which is it’s coastal influence and flavours. So I brought together a number of unlikely flavours, to come up with a fresh, effervescent cocktail that celebrates all that is wonderful in Canada, and I can’t wait to show you. The Green Current cocktail is the Canadian Cocktail you didn’t know you needed.

Showcasing Vancouver Island with Sheringham Gin

I’ve been a fan-girl of Sheringham Gin for a while now. I got a chance to showcase their greatness last year, and what a blessing they’ve landed on Ontario shelves. But what makes them great and unique in the Gin aisle, is it’s representation of Canada, and specifically Vancouver Island. Because this Gin isn’t infused with just the traditional Coriander, Juniper and Lavender. No, my friends. They’ve sustainably included Winged Kelp, local to the island, to bring the taste of its coast to your glass. I let this be the definitive factor in building the cocktail you see now.

Mixing this Canadian Cocktail

So what makes this cocktail green? And it’s not the Winged Kelp. It’s Celery Juice. Celery Juice is something I love to use in my Alcohol-Free libations and cocktails. It’s no secret. That’s why I leaned on its characteristics to brighten up and lengthen this cocktail.

It’s also important to note the sugar component, which I had to go with a local honey here. Mind you, don’t feel you need to buy Rosewood’s Honey, although they are great. But you can use any local honey for this creation and still be quite content.

We’ve also got a fun addition that really took me by surprise. Introducing Prosyro Zap Sour Solution. I’ve long-loved Prosyro. They’re some of the very best, high quality syrups out there in the market, and they’ve expanded their line to include so much more, including this Citrus Solution. So when you don’t have lemons or limes, this bad boy will do the job. You don’t need much for it to go a long way, so be sparing with it. AND, this brand is coming out of Quebec.

AND, I’ve got a discount code for you too, because I love you all, and I love when you’re saving! Use MONICA10 at the checkout for a discount of 10% on Alambika and it’s Prosyro Products!

Utilizing Beer in a Gin Beer Cocktail

Last, but certainly not least, let’s talk BEER! I did not initially intend for a Beer to be incorporated in this masterpiece, but I’m so happy with this coincidence, as it made a world of a difference. First off, I’m using one of my favourite brewers coming out of Quebec and that’s Unibroue. We don’t get a ton of the unique expressions associated with this brand, but we do have the Blanche de Chambly which isn’t your typical Belgian Wheat Ale Beer. For a Wheat Beer, I find this surprisingly complex, full of body, refreshing but not understated. And I think with it’s mix of delicacy, with still a daring amount of hops (I know this sounds incorrect, but it somehow balances both concepts), this beer is quite magical. Plus the effervescence and hops, brought out the notes of the Gin so well. I truly do feel as if I’m sipping by the Vancouver Island Coast. Convinced you yet? I guess you’ll have to support our industry and taste this Gin Beer Cocktail for yourself!
