Peach, Vanilla and Fig Old Fashioned

With summer here, I usually slack on my sweet and savoury cocktails. I get excited for fresh and tropical ingredients that I forget how much I miss a good Old Fashioned. Having found a ton of figs in the markets lately, I jumped on the opportunity to throw some of these flavours together. So I’m excited to present this Peach Wednesday feature with a delicious Peach, Vanilla and Fig Old Fashioned!

This cocktail calls for a very unique syrup. I know, I know, you’re probably thinking ‘MONICA, another syrup?!’, but what you need to know is that syrups are your BEST FRIENDS. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, syrups are an amazing way to dress up your normal routine. This syrup can be used as a sweetener for your coffee, added to your dessert, or even an ingredient to your BBQ sauce! You can simply use this syrup as the sweetener instead of brown sugar and you’ll be astonished with the results!

For this creation here, I made a Vanilla, Fig and Orange Peel Syrup. At first I combined it with peaches, because I had wanted to create something unique for my #peachwednesday hump day cocktails. Unfortunately the peaches were masked by the overwhelming vanilla and fig components. More times than not, I have enjoyed using fresh peaches over roasted peaches. The bright flavours from a fresh peach tends to translates better in a cocktail, and in this case it did. I muddled some fresh peaches before combining the other components of this cocktail, and it came together so beautifully. This cocktail may have re-invigorated my love for Old Fashioned’s again, so I’ll just apologize now for the flood of adaptations that are to come.
