Your Basic Sangriscle

I have a long history of experimenting with frozen cocktails, and a lot of it isn’t good and involved a very annoying and sticky kitchen. Lucky for you, I’ve done all the suffering, and all you have to do is semi pay attention to my directions and you should be fine.

So it only made sense that the Sangria Queen (yes I’m naming myself that, you want to fight about it?) would freeze up one of her favourite concoctions. These renditions are without a doubt a simplified version of my normal sangrias, because I wanted something quick and easy to throw together that didn’t involve 101 items. 99 Problems but Sangria ain’t 1 (I think I’m clever)

One thing to note with Popsicles is that they need extra sugar. Something about the whole freezing process leaves you with a very tart and sour product, but sugar will just marry all the flavours together perfectly. Believe me, I love refreshing and I prefer less sugar at all costs in my drinks, but this just can not be omitted. Now, if you decide to change the juice and it’s very sweet on it’s own, then don’t worry about the additional sugar. In the end, be mindful!

Poppin' Sangria (Red Wine Edition)

Just when you thought Sangria couldn't get better! This is the simplest and easiest recipe to a frozen Sangria

Difficulty: Easy

Servings 1 Popsicle
Author Monica C

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Red Wine Cabernet or Merlot recommended
  • 1/3 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/3 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 1 oz Orange Juice
  • 2 Orange Wheels

Instructions

  1. Place orange wheels inside the popsicle mold and make sure that it won't move after having liquid placed

  2. Pour all the ingredients listed into a spouted container to easily pour into molds

  3. Slowly pour liquids into molds

  4. Place in freezer upright for a minimum of 2 hours (overnight best)

  5. Before pulling the popsicle out, have the mold quickly run through hot water without getting any inside the mold and slowly start to pull the popsicle out of the mold.

Recipe Notes

The measures for these molds were 4 oz. Make sure to check the volume of your molds first, and adjust accordingly if the sizing is different from my measures!

You may have noticed that the amount of fluid in my ingredient list doesn't total to 4 oz. That's because I had to take in account the volume used when I placed the Orange Wheels inside. Remember to have it all mixed up before pouring into the mold. Any extra will have to be 'taken care of' in another way.

I used Simple Syrup in this recipe, but if you don’t have it lying around or don’t feel like making it and letting it cool, I substitute brown sugar for everything. Make sure it is well muddled in the mixture before pouring it into the molds
