Peach Basil Rye Smash

It’s another peach day feature here on Liquid Culture, and I’m excited to bring you a recipe that I SWEAR takes no time to throw together. Today I’m combining some of my favourite flavours, which include Peach and Basil, alongside a delicious Rye!

More often than not, I prefer to grab a bottle of rye over bourbon. I know bourbon has gone through a massive trend and obsession, and I do love and appreciate it as a spirit, but their is something so unique when it comes to rye. Typically you will find that most rye’s are drier in a style and tend to have a bit of spice and kick to it. Now don’t think curries or jalapenos when it comes to spice, instead think of the sting you get from ginger and cinnamon. That complexity alone has me always looking for different ryes. Bourbon’s are also tightly regulated, whereas Rye’s have a lot more freedom in terms of its production and influences. The next time you want to order a manhattan with bourbon, don’t. Test out some of the amazing 100% straight rye products out there, and see why this classic calls for a rye instead of a bourbon.

With that spice in mind, I knew peaches would be a natural pairing in any cocktail containing Rye. To keep things light and refreshing for summer, I decided to create a cocktail that was fresh, bright with some fresh peaches and basil. With that muddled and shaken with freshly squeezed orange juice and lemon, we have an incredible summer sipper that will be so easy to put together. Cheers!
